How to interpret the connections and dates
The Christian Bible includes Israel’s scriptures, which remain sacred Jewish texts, and the New Testament, which emerged from the early Jesus movement. Christian traditions differ in their Old Testament canons. This comparison focuses on widely shared texts.
A story’s setting, its composition, and its oldest surviving manuscript can have different dates. An earlier king does not automatically mean an earlier surviving story about that king. Many compositions developed through copying and editing.
Explicit reuse is stronger evidence than a similar motif. Shared cultural context can explain a resemblance without identifying a direct written source. Comparing narratives does not establish or disprove their religious truth claims.
